Taste of DC Moves to Larger Location; Adds Longer Hours, More Features
Taste of DC (www.TheTasteofDC.org), DC’s largest food festival, moves to the Festival Grounds at RFK Stadium on Columbus Day weekend Saturday, October 7 and Sunday October 8, 2017. The Mid-Atlantic’s largest culinary festival, established in 1989, will bring to this expanded venue two days of the region’s very best food, drink and entertainment.
Taste of DC CEO Steuart Martens explains that working in partnership with Events DC the move from Pennsylvania Avenue to the expansive RFK campus will enable the event to grow. “The RFK campus redevelopment, with its proposed dynamic event and entertainment venues, gives us the opportunity to make Taste of DC an even more vibrant event that truly celebrates the bounty of the Mid-Atlantic. Being able to produce this culinary extravaganza in partnership with the city at RFK enables us to offer attendees generous adjacent parking and Metro accessibility plus gives us the chance to expand our hours of operation to plan evening programming and a Friday night opening event. It’s a win-win for us and for Events DC.”
”Events DC is excited to host Taste of DC on the Festival Grounds at RFK Stadium,” says Erik A. Moses, Events DC Sports, Entertainment and Special Events senior vice president and managing director. “The relocation of this signature DC event to the historic RFK campus is a fitting marriage that will benefit patrons, participants and sponsors this year and years to come.”
Attendees will be able to sample from more than 65 of the region’s most popular restaurants at Taste of DC’s Restaurant Row, try more than 50 wines on the Taste of DC Wine Walk and enjoy nonstop entertainment on three different stages. Cooking demonstrations on the ABW Culinary Stage will feature regional chefs.
The area’s largest Oktoberfest celebration will take over an entire section of the festival grounds. This interactive celebration will bring the Munich Oktoberfest feel to life, Martens said, offering Oompa and polka bands, dancers, commemorative beer steins, German beers and authentic fare like schnitzel, bratwurst and pretzels.
Another new attraction will be a Kids Zone with activities and cooking demonstrations for future foodies making the event even more family-friendly.
The ultimate tailgate party, The Chili Cook-off at Taste of DC, will feature chili, beer and barbeque and specialty programming. On Saturday, October 7 The 7th Annual Ben’s Chili Bowl’s World Chili Eating Championship will bring some of the country’s best competitive eaters back to this exclusive-to-DC World Champion event. The competition takes place Saturday at 3 p.m. on the Taste of DC Main Stage. On Sunday, October 8, a competitive celebrity chef and amateur cook-off will take place to crown DC’s Chili Master.
