Events DC and the White House Celebrate the Spirit of Innovation and Creative Economies in Support of South by South Lawn (SXSL)
(Washington, DC) – September 30, 2016 – In partnership with the White House, Events DC, the official convention and sports authority for the District of Columbia, will lead efforts on behalf of our nation’s capital to support the inaugural South by South Lawn (SXSL), a White House festival of ideas, art and action. To expand upon the city’s annual activation at South by Southwest® (SXSW) to promote DC as a thriving creative hub, Events DC is joining forces with the White House to expand this celebration of spirited innovation and civic engagement across our nation’s capital.
Events DC’s support reinforces and acknowledges the shared synergy of Washington, DC’s WeDC efforts at SXSW to promote its technology sector, innovative startup companies, creative talent and cultivate new relationships with DC and global business communities. Additionally, this unparalleled collaboration truly enables Events DC to continue to position Washington, DC and its flourishing creative economy on a global stage alongside the White House.

SXSL Breakfast Session at the Newseum
- SXSL Breakfast Session at the Newseum – Hard Things are Hard: A Conversation with James Turrell and David Adjaye
- In a conversation moderated by Los Angeles County Museum of Art’s Michael Govan, James Turrell and David Adjaye will discuss the challenges and rewards of taking on the “hard things” through their groundbreaking projects. For artist James Turrell and architect David Adjaye, taking on the hard work has motivated them to push physical limits, build audacious structures and consistently challenge the standards of art and architecture.
- SXSL After Party (hosted at POV at W Washington, DC)
- To put a capstone on the first-ever SXSL, the after party will feature performances from nationally-recognized artists and provide a perfect avenue for attendees, DC officials and interested parties to meet one another and celebrate the creative energy, passion and social influencers gathered in our nation’s capital. Performances will include: Talib Kweli and Grammy-nominated Young Guru.
