29 Metropolitan Police Department Officers Receive Awards from Events DC for their Efforts at National Education Association (NEA) Annual Meeting
At a recent all staff meeting, Events DC presented officers from the Washington, DC Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) with awards for going above and beyond the call of duty in logging more than 800 hours of protection during the 2016 National Education Association (NEA) annual meeting. The officers provided first-class customer service, while ensuring the safety of the 7,000 attendees during the meeting. The NEA annual meeting was held at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center on Thursday, June 23 to Thursday July 7, 2016, which included a long holiday weekend.
In light of the recent events in Orlando, Florida, the NEA requested armed police officers along with additional enhanced security measures, including detection canine teams to be posted across the Convention Center during the length of the meeting. Throughout the meeting, the officers were requested by the NEA security team to perform heightened tasks that were outside of their routine employment engagement activities. The MPD officers both met and exceeded the challenges that were presented.
In addition to providing security to the building, the MPD officers worked with the United States Secret Service to implement extra safety precautions to provide security to Democratic Presidential Candidate, Hillary Clinton, who participated as the conference’s keynote speaker.
