The Sankofa Project hosts its 9th Annual National Title IX Conference, Classic and STEAM Career Summit Presented by Events DC
WASHINGTON, DC – The Sankofa Project will host its 9th Annual National Title IX Conference, Classic and STEAM Career Summit, December 27-30, 2017 in Washington, D.C. The Title IX Conference and STEAM Career Summit will take place at the Capitol Skyline Hotel located at 10 I Street, SW and begins on Wednesday, December 27, 2017.
The opening of the Conference at the Capitol Skyline Hotel, 10 I St., SW, promises to grab the attention of players, and coaches with a Red-Carpet Photo Shoot and an inspirational talk entitled: Stay In The Press™ Success Is Not A Straight Line by guest host, former Division I, NCAA Champion, Toyinda L. Smith. Smith is the CEO of Leadership Strategy & Consulting, LLC, a firm that position women, teams and organizations to be champions in business, athletics, leadership and education.
The Career Summit has a powerful line-up of STEAM professionals and workshop presenters such as husband and wife duo, Rudy Gaskins and Joan Baker, Voice Over Artists. Gaskins is Chairman and CEO of the Society of Voice Arts and Sciences™ (SOVAS™) and CCO of Push Creative Advertising, a branding services company providing strategic marketing, design and production for broadcast and cable networks. Baker is author of Secrets of Voice-Over Success, has performed hundreds of promos and commercials for TV, film and radio throughout her highly regarded career including but not limited to, ABC News, American Express, ESPN, SHOWTIME, HBO and NBA Entertainment.
Also, 3-time Academic All-Great American, Krystal Beachum, author of For the Other 98%: The Ultimate Guide for Student Athletes to Go Pro in Entrepreneurship empowers student-athletes to achieve their full potential; and, Roxie Farrow, Founder of the Exodus Project a non-profit created to raise the awareness of Human Trafficking round out the summit.
The Title IX Classic will be held at the DC Armory, 2400 East Capitol St. SW where 70+ teams of NCAA and CIAA eligible players travel to the Nation’s Capital to play before a wide range of coaches and scouts seeking to award scholarships -- scholarships made possible because of the passage of Title IX. The first tip-off will be Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at 9:00am and the last tip-off will be on December 30, 2017 at 8:00pm.
Under Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, the law reads “No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving federal financial assistance.”
