In just under a decade, the heart of downtown Washington, DC was transformed by the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. An extraordinary building in a powerful city, the Convention Center offers an event planner unprecedented flexibility to create a unique experience.
At a robust 2.3-million square feet, the Convention Center brings a new level of energy to events in the city and is designed to be the venue of success for large conventions, trade shows, and mid-sized to small meetings. Major medical shows take advantage of state-of-the-art technology, while the region’s largest consumer events value welcoming interior space and easy access to public transit. The Center also hosts some of Washington, DC’s most exclusive galas and fundraisers.
Recognized as one of the most-energy efficient buildings of its size, the Convention Center has won awards both for inspiring design and as a major contributor toward urban renewal in downtown DC. Events DC has generated more than $2.5 billion dollars in economic activity at the Center since opening in 2003 while bringing millions of visitors to a revitalized downtown and the historic Shaw neighborhood.
To further leverage the power of large-scale meetings, Events DC has made a significant investment in the new Washington Marriott Marquis, a four-star, 1,175-room hotel connected to the Convention Center. The 44-month construction project and opening of the new hotel in 2014 will create even greater economic benefits for the District through the creation of a combined 1,600 jobs.
