Events DC Community Grant Program
Update: Call for applications in the second semi-annual grant cycle is now open
Deadline: February 1, 2017

As an active and engaged community member, Events DC is proud to continue to support the future of non-profit organizations in Washington, DC that promote youth participation in both the arts and athletics. 

Through the Events DC Community Grant Program, Events DC will award $50,000 semi-annually or $100,000 annually, with grant amounts ranging from a minimum single grant of $2,500 to a maximum single grant of $25,000. The grant program will provide financial support to non-profit organizations dedicated to supporting children through sports, performing arts or cultural arts in the District of Columbia. During the first semi-annual grant cycle in Fiscal Year 2017 (Application Deadline: August 1, 2016), Events DC proudly awarded financial support to 10 organizations.

Grant applications timeline: 

Applications for the second Fiscal Year 2017 semi-annual grant cycle will be due no later than February 1, 2017. Applicants will be notified of their award status by April 15, 2017. Applications received after February 1, 2017 will not be considered during the Fiscal Year 2017 grants program cycle.

Eligibility:

Applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements to be considered:

  • *Be a DC-based non-profit organization certified as tax exempt in accordance with criteria set forth by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) under Section 501(c)(3) of the U.S. Tax Code and granted an exemption from District of Columbia income and franchise taxes, pursuant to DC Code § 47-1802.01; 
  • *Utilize grant funding for programs or projects that support youth-focused sports, performing or cultural arts in the District of Columbia; and 
  • *Present a copy of an annual financial audit conducted by a certified public accountant for the organization’s most recent fiscal year; or if the organization has not conducted an annual financial audit, a copy of the organization’s IRS Form 990 for the most recent tax year.




Entertainment and Sports Arena Development and Planning

On October 26, 2015 Events DC hosted its first meeting with the Ward 8 community regarding the proposed Entertainment and Sports Arena.  The purpose of these now ongoing meetings are to provide the community with information, updates and timelines surrounding the future Entertainment and Sports Arena project. Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium Campus Redevelopment and Planning

On September 30, 2015 Events DC hosted its second of two community meetings to seek community input on the future use of Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium Campus redevelopment and planning inclusive of DC Armory, Maloof Skate Park and the Festival Grounds. As a visible, active member of the community, Events DC has made it a priority to support, engage, and inspire the local community.

 


Feast of Sharing

For over a decade Events DC has teamed up with Safeway, Inc. to celebrate the spirit of giving with the Annual Safeway Feast of Sharing at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. Together, with organizations such as the Department of Employment Services, Centerplate/NBSE, WPGC-FM, Salvation Army, SunTrust Bank, Metropolitan Baptist Church and the Mid-Atlantic Gleaning Network, more than 40,000 people have been served meals during the holiday season as well as provided access to city services and employment opportunities.


Winter Wonderland

Events DC is committed to creating memorable experiences for the residents of the District of Colombia. In partnership with the Advisory Neighborhood Commission, each year nearly 100 children from the Shaw community surrounding the Walter E. Washington Convention Center participate in the Annual Winter Wonderland, a fun-filled, holiday event. Much more than a toy distribution, this event brings families, the local community and city officials together to celebrate this joyous time of the year.


Windows Into DC

VAR_4465.jpgEvents DC also believes in supporting local businesses. Presented in partnership with the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities, “Windows into DC” the first of its kind exhibit that energized select storefronts and windows at the exterior of the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. The first installment which launched in 2010, featured fourteen local artists including the New Community for Children and brought diverse artists and even students from the Shaw neighborhood to paint windows and artworks with creative expressions that represent the nation’s capital. In 2011, the second installment “Arts on N”, promoted a free weekend outdoor market and gallery art installation displaying indie talents of handmade expression and local art by district residents.

The third installation entitled, "Windows Into DC: Cultural Couture," a local art installation and fashion design initiative, featured a rotating series of artistic installations that provided an alternative platform and added exposure to the metropolitan art experience by activating the perimeter windows of the Walter E. Washington Convention Center with original fine artwork from individuals, design team, and art organizations such as the Washington Project for the Arts. Cultural Couture window installations featured contemporary fine art inspired by original haute couture designed curated by local designers. 

NCAA Youth Football Clinic

Since 2010, Events DC annually hosts the NCAA Football Youth Clinic in conjunction with the Military Bowl presented by Northrop Grumman and the NCAA. This collaboration features a free football clinic open to boys and girls ages 7-14, and discussions on the benefits of sportsmanship, teamwork and positive character development by college coaches and current professional players. The day concludes with 7-on-7 flag football games.
